Detailed Narrative Description of Project:

Dhaka City is surrounded by rivers on all sides. Within the city a large numbers of canals are flowing into the rivers carrying internal waste water, rain water and flood water out of the city. Due to rapid and unplanned urbanisation, most of these canals have been encroached, filled up, diverted and developed which caused obstruction to smooth flow of water to the rivers ultimately creating water logging in the city. As a result GoB feel it is essential to re-establish the original width and alignment of the canals in proper shape and form to ensure easy flow of rain and flood water through these canals. As first step to this end 11 most important canals have been taken up for reform and development under this project.
