Detail Narrative Description of the Project:

 

In December 1996 the Ganges Water Treaty was signed between the Government of India and Bangladesh. The treaty sets out arrangement for sharing the Ganges water during dry season. Following this treaty studies were initiated under BWDB and a report was published namely “Gorai River Re-excavation Project for Gorai River Restoration: Priority Dredging and Ancillary Works”. In order to implement the recommendations of this report the “Gorai River Restoration project” has been undertaken by the Government under funding from the World Bank and the Government of Netherlands. The overall objectives of the project are to prevent environmental degradation in the Southwest region and to ensure fresh water flow in the wet season and augmenting this flow during the dry season.

Detail feasibility study and preparation of design including selection of the best design option, cost estimates, economic and financial evaluation, implementation plan, financial plan, preparation of bid document, institutional arrangement and operation & maintenance programme. Conducting survey and mathematical modelling to support the design work. Environmental Assessment including assessment of benefits and effects in long run. Physical modelling work to support the detailed design. Preparation of Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) and programme to involve the beneficiaries in project planning and implementation.
