Detailed Narrative Description of Project:

 

In the year 2004, severe flood occurred in Bangladesh during the month of July.  40% area of the country was under flood water causing damages to the infrastructures. Bangladesh Water Development Board engaged consultant to assess the damages, prioritization of the work to be undertaken, planning for rehabilitation as well as the cost of rehabilitation. The consultant assessed the damages from both technical, social & environmental points of view and submitted the Final Report on 31.10.2004 with a recommendation of priority of work to be undertaken and the cost of rehabilitation in phases.

 

ADB provided US$ 72.00 million as emergency assistance for rehabilitation of damaged infrastructures. Rehabilitation works include re-sectioning of 2390 km of partly damaged and reconstruction of 147km breaches/fully damaged & retired embankment, rehabilitation of 219 km fully damaged, 336 km partly damaged irrigation canal/drainage channels, construction of 10 km and rehabilitation of 35 km river bank protection/river training work, repair & replacement of 35 nos. water control structures.
