Detailed
Narrative Description of the Project: The capacity building of RDEC engineers is the most
important issue for RDEC. Therefore JICA and LGED jointly started the
strengthening the activities in RDEC Project based on the request of GoB in
November, 2007 for the four years period. In this project, four units
(GIS/Planning, Design, Quality Control, Maintenance) are identified as the
most important units for technical capacity building. The revision of Road
Structure Manuals is one of the activities of the Design Unit in this
project. However, the latest version of the Road Structure Manuals which was
revised in 1994 is needed to be improved due to technology progress of
design, revision of upper level plan and changing situation of climate. |

Detailed
Description of Actual Services Provided by our Staff: Review
the existing road structure manuals presently followed by LGED in designing
road structures and existing design practices on slope protection works.
Review the present practices being followed by LGED in design of the above
works. Find out the short comings/inadequacies in the present manuals. Set
design criteria, standards and other parameters suitable for LGED in respect
of "Standard Design" for double lane bridges for both RCC and
Pre-stressed concrete and culverts. Set type of structure, design standard
& codes, design methods, loading etc. for the bridges and culverts and
hydraulic and hydrological parameters for the slope protection works. Produce
design calculation of all the components of the structure of bridges and
culverts, prepare bar bending schedule and bill of quantities of all the
structures. |
